Forecasts of reservoir inflow are a requirement for efficient hydropower operations. At the shorter time horizons — hours to days — accurate forecasts increase operating efficiencies and safety margins, especially in watersheds that are flood prone. At longer time horizons — weeks to months into the future — forecasts are used by both energy and water supply operators as well as by energy marketers to anticipate long-term changes in water availability. 3TIER’s forecasts are updated as often as hourly to provide the most accurate and relevant forecasts for your specific watershed.

3TIER is able to forecast streamflow anywhere in the world, with
particular expertise in snow-fed watersheds. We have a long heritage of
forecasting for the vast U.S. Pacific Northwest, where we offer a range
of services, including:

  • a comprehensive, regional long-range streamflow forecast in a single web-based application
  • watershed-scale short-range flow predictions for flood risk and reservoir management.
